Wild sisal plants (Sansevieria ehrenbergiana) and "wait-a-bit" thorn trees (Acacia mellifera). The former are called "oldupai" in the Maasai language, and gives the gorge it's name (although mispronounced and misspelled "Olduvai"). The latter have recurved "cat claw" thorns like our Cat-claw Acacia back home in the Mojave.
